#ApneTareekeSeHealthy, Here are My Super Easy Ways to Being Healthy and Fit

"Health is wealth"

We all love our family. We want our loved ones to stay fit and healthy. Good nutrition and regular exercise are an important part of adopting a healthy lifestyle. We all know that making the right food choices can prevent many serious health problems such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Being a homeopathic physician and mom of two young kids, I believed in a concept of natural living, real food and a holistic approach to healthcare and I always try to find simple and smart ways to keep myself and my family healthy.

I would like to do a big round of applause to Blogadda and saffola for initiating such a great campaign. And I am supremely excited to share my ways of being healthy. Also, love to read the ways how other people maintain their health during routine hectic life schedule. So, let’s first begin with healthy and balanced diet.

First way to being healthy- eat healthy, nutritious and balanced diet

As a general rule, a healthy and balanced diet is a diet that contains the right amount of all the food groups.  It includes carbohydrate, protein, vitamins, minerals, fat, and fiber in a proper amount. And we should always try to include these important nutrients in our routine diet for staying fit and healthy. But it is not as easy as it sounds.

During routine life, hectic work schedule and limited time often create a challenge for preparing a healthy and balanced meal.  Making a healthy and balanced meal with limited time definitely, requires a pre-preparation and some smart strategies.  Sometimes, few simple but smart eating (and cooking) changes in our dietary habits, can optimize the nutritional value of our routine diet.
 Here I am sharing some of my favorite and simple ways to eat (and cook) healthy and balanced diet for my family.

Advance menu planning- pre-preparation and menu planning is the first and the best thing to make a healthy and balanced meal in limited time. I always prefer to sort out some healthy and quick recipes during a weekend for upcoming weeks. And try to select those recipes that cover the recommended daily requirement of each nutrient. With a little preparation, planning your meals in advance can help you eat a more nutritious and well-balanced diet during busy weekdays.

Shop smartly- smart shopping is my second important strategy to make a balanced meal.  It is the best way for providing safe and healthy food for your family. Usually, we tend to buy and eat same food products over and over again. And it may be a major cause of nutritional deficiency in our diet.  So, I love to be a little adventurous for changing the settled routine. I always try to buy and eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Read labels and select the appropriate product is another simple strategy that helps in healthy shopping.

Start the main meal with a vegetable platter- this is another simple but effective way to include more vegetables in your routine diet. I always start my main meal with an attractive vegetable platter (preferably raw) with some healthy dressing. This step allows me to fill up sooner and help in eat less in the following meal. It is a simple way to maintain our vegetable requirement for the day. It helps in adding fibre in the diet and also a great source for healthy weight management.

Healthy snacking with fresh fruits and dry fruit- I had observed that unhealthy and processed food snack is the major cause of unnecessary calorie intake and may cause obesity and metabolic disorders at the young age. Eating a nutritious and healthy snack can boost your daily intakes of essential nutrients such as fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Replace the white bread and white rice with brown bread and brown rice- scientific studies suggested that brown rice and brown bread both are the finest source of vitamin B-complex, fibers and proteins. While white bread and white rice made with the refined flours. Refined carbohydrates are low in essential nutrients and have been linked with the range of health problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and obesity. So why not replace the white bread and white rice with brown bread and brown rice? It is a healthier option and helps us feel full for a longer period of time. 

Pay more attention to method of cooking

Apart from maintaining nutritional requirements, it is equally important to use a healthy method of cooking. Deep frying or overcooking often destroys nutritional elements of healthy cooking ingredients. So, try to use alternative healthy ways of cooking (such as steaming or stir-frying) is a great way to keep nutritional value of cooking ingredients intact.

So with these ways, I try to maintain a healthy eating schedule for me and my family. Now, it’s time to talk about exercise. Definitely, it is really hard to maintain a strict and regular exercise schedule during routine hectic days. But as our campaign says, we have to find #ApneTareekeSeHealthy  way to keep ourselves motivated for doing the regular physical activity every day.

Second way “Regular exercise”

Here are some of my favorite ways to maintain a regular exercise schedule during routine hectic days.
  • ·         I believed it is more a mind game. In simple words, you have to prepare yourself mentally for doing exercise regularly. If you win the “mind game”, there are higher chances that you would be able to maintain your schedule most of the days.
  • ·         To keep myself motivated I always read the interviews or podcasts of fitness enthusiasts persons. They often share the simple ways to do exercise regularly without taking extra stress. I always try to follow their advice to keep myself motivated.
  • ·         Usually I try to make exercise as a “family activity”, too involved each and every person in the family. It is a fun and creative way to spend time together. And it helps in maintain an exercise schedule too.
  • ·         Though it is good to pre-plan your exercise schedule and I also love to do that. I love variations such as some days I like to precise gentle yoga, while on some days, a quick aerobic workout works great for me.

Definitely, there are some days when I wouldn’t be able to follow pre-plan strategies, during those days I prefer just

  1. ·         To take a walk in my backyard
  2. ·         Use staircase instead of lift
  3. ·         Play a game with my kids
  4. ·         Go for regular errands by walking    



These tiny steps help me maintain at least some kind of physical activity and fitness schedule.

#lovejatao on Happy Grandparents day- "Always My Dadi, Forever My Friend"

Though I personally believed that a single day celebration is not enough to share our emotions, love, and care for our dear and near ones. Still, it is amazing that we had set aside a day to encourage our families to spend time with their grandparents. And I am also absolutely delighted for this celebration. Happy grandparent’s day!
Grandparents are the delightful blend of unconditional love, care, and affection. They hold our hands just for a while, but get our hearts forever; they make the world softer, kinder and warmer. It is true that they are the true treasure in a family. Their presence and life lessons are most important thing in life.  It has been said that,

“A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend”

For me, the word “grandparent” brings on so many awesome childhood memories instantly. I had some incredible memories of togetherness with them as a child. and among all them, “my dadi” is the person, who still every day creates a sense of warmth inside my heart. For me,

“My grandmother is the most important wheel in the family vehicle. She has devoted her whole life to caring and servicing her family. She has done lots of sacrifices in her life but never shown a bit of that emotion on her face. She always smiles; she always brings a sense of joy and happiness in our family. She is a great cook, she cooks the really delicious meal. She is like a “rock”, which always bond all family members together. She is the most amazing and wonderful person. She has taught me so many important life lessons. And apart from all this, the one quality that I admired most is her “sense of humor”. She has an incredible capability to make any one laugh. Her kindness, patience, humor and most importantly just her presence is the most precious gift of God to our family. I did not have enough words to express my gratitude towards her. Still, I want to say her thanks from my bottom my heart for caring the whole family so selflessly and whole heartedly.


I would love to celebrate not only “Grandparent’s day”, but each and every special occasion of my life with her as well. Unfortunately, since last 3 years, I am in the USA with my family and I had not gotten a chance to meet her, greet her. I wish I would be there and If I, these are some ideas that I want to use to celebrate this truly special day.

I would love to spend the whole day with her

I believed “spending quality time” is the best and most precious gift, which can offer or get on any special day. And especially for grandparents, it is the most pampering thing that I would love to do. She loves to talk a lot; she always wants their children and grandchildren close to her heart. So I would that chance, I would love to spend this special day with her by doing some simplest things such as:

Visit to a temple

She is a religious lady (like all other granny) and she never wants to miss a chance to visit a temple. She loves to sing Bhajans and aarti. So on this special day, I want to visit a temple with her. It would be really a satisfying thing for me to take her to temple visit, make the flower garland for god, prepare “Prasad” and sing along with her, to make this celebration really special.

Cook meal with her

As I had said earlier, she is a great cook. And at the age of 88, she still enjoys cooking and serving the really delicious meal to the whole family. She always wants that her grandchildren to join her in a kitchen. So I would love to make this wish true. I would not only enjoy the cooking with her but eating together would be a really great thing that we can do together to make this celebration truly special.

Make a special handmade gift for her

Nowadays, various fancy cards and gifts are available everywhere, to celebrate any special occasion. But I believed handmade gifts and cards are really special. Sharing your feeling through a handmade card or making a super simple crafting piece for her, would be an extra special thing that I would love to do for her. I am sure she will be so happy to see this tiny piece of love and appreciation.

Capture that moment

I love photography and I love to capture all tiny sweet moment of togetherness. So how could I miss this chance, I would love to capture all these sweet tiny moments as photos. And I think my dadi also want the same things. These tiny moments are the true treasure of life. They give us a sense of warmth and happiness every day. Even on those days, when we are not together rememorizing these moments make us refreshed and rejuvenated in few minutes.

How to raise a happy family

द्रश्य सुबह का रुटीन:
·         माँ- "बच्चो देर हो रही है, जल्दी उठो, स्कूल है..."
·         बच्चे- नही माँ, थोड़ी देर और सोना है..
·         पापा- जल्दी करो, मुझे भी ऑफिस जाना है, स्कूल बस मिस हो जाएगी...
और फिर वही, ब्रेकफास्ट करो, फाइल नही मिल रही, दूध उफान गया...आदि आदि!

द्रश्य दिन का समय
·         माँ- बच्चो जल्दी से नाश्ता फिनिश करो, फिर ढेर सारा होमवर्क करना है...
·         बच्चे- माँ अभी तो आए है, स्कूल से...

 द्रश्य शाम का समय
·         माँ-डिन्नर की तैयारी, क्लीन अप, अगले दिन की तैयारी...
·         बच्चे- टीवी, पढ़ाई,...और फिर थक कर सोने की कोशिश मे लगे है... पापा- आफ़िस की थकान, कुछ फोन कॉल, कुछ मेल चेकिंग, कुछ टीवी..और फिर वही अगले दिन की तैयारी

यही है, हमारे आम परिवार की रुटीन, बँधी सी दिनचर्या, जहाँ हर कोई व्यस्त है, अपने अपने हिस्से की ज़वाबदारियो को निभाने मे..सोमवार से शुक्रवार इसी भागदौड़ मे जाता है, पर वीकेंड भी कुछ कम तनावग्रस्त नही है...शॉपिंग, दूसरी परिवारिक और सामाजिक ज़िमेदारियाँ...बस इसी तरह भाग-दौड़ मे ज़िंदगी गुजर रही है, किसी को भी साँस लेने की फ़ुर्सत नही है, है तो बस तनाव और थकान...हर कोई चाहता है, कुछ पल मिले फ़ुर्सत के, सुकून के, पर किसी को समझ नही आता की इस भागदौड़ की ज़िंदगी मे कैसे तनावमुक्त और खुशहाल रखे..

पिछले कुछ दीनो से इसी भाग-दौड़ के चलते मे महसूस कर रही थी, की इतनी सारी आधुनिक सुख-सुविधाए होने के बाद भी हम अपनी परिवारिक ज़िंदगी अच्छे से एंजाय नही कर पा रहे है! हर समय हमारा शरीर और मश्तिश्क "keep it on mode" मे रहते है, सरल शब्दो मे कहे तो हम हर समय किसी ना किसी विषय वस्तु मे उलझे रहते है, हर समय हम पर एक प्रेशर है, अपने आप को साबित करने का..लगता है ज़िंदगी के हर मे कोई परिवारिक ज़िंदगी अच्छे से एंजाय नही कर पा रहे है! 

हर समय हमारा शरीर और मश्तिश्क "keep it on mode" मे रहते है, सरल शब्दो मे कहे तो हम हर समय किसी ना किसी विषय वस्तु मे उलझे रहते है, हर समय हम पर एक प्रेशर है, अपने आप को साबित करने का..लगता है ज़िंदगी के हर  field मे कोई रेस लगी हुई है, और हर कोई उसमे फर्स्ट आना चाहता है, और ज़ीवन के बाकी क्षेत्रो की तरह पेरेंटिंग भी इसी रेस का हिस्सा बन गया है, लगता है एक खूबसूरत सफ़र न रह कर ये एक मिशन बन गया है!

मुझे पूरा यकीन है, मेरी तरह ही अधिकाँशतः पेरेंट्स इस बात से सहमत होगे की हम अपनी पेरेंटिंग जर्नी मे कुछ ज़्यादा ही तनाव महसूस कर रहे है और थकान और चिंता हमारी आम ज़िंदगी का खास हिस्सा बन चुके है!

पर कहते है, हर मुश्किल राह मे भी मंज़िल मिल ही जाती है, यदि हम कोशिश करे तो...बस थोड़ी मेहनत और pre-planning की ज़रूरत है, तो यहाँ अपने अनुभव से मे कुछ टिप्स share करना चाहुगी, उम्मीद है, इससे आप को भी मदद मिलेगी!

आम तौर पर हम सभी अपने अपने काम और ज़वाबदारियो मे इस कदर उलझ जाते है, की हमे एक साथ समय बिताने की इंपॉर्टेन्स याद ही नही रहती, और यही सबसे बड़ा कारण होता है, परिवारिक तनाव का! कभी कभी तो हमे ठीक से पता भी नही होता की हमारे बच्चो और पति का दिन कैसा रहा? निश्चित रूप से दैनिक रुटीन मे हर समय टाइम निकालना मुश्किल रहता है, पर फिर भी थोड़ी कोशिश तो की ही जा सकती है, मसलन:

साथ बिताए "quality time" एक फॅमिली की तरह
·         छोटे छोटे पलो को एंजाय करने की आदत डालिए, कार मे या बच्चो को स्कूल से लाते हुए अपनी आगे की ज़वाबदारी (यानी खाने मे क्या बनाना है या और क्या काम बाकी है) ये सोचने की जगह बच्चो से अपना दिन share कीजिए, कुछ अपनी कहिए, कुछ उनकी सुनिए कुछ देर के लिए ही सही, पर साथ बिताया ये लम्हा आप को अपने बच्चो से reconnect करेगा और आप एक फॅमिली की तरह और स्ट्रॉंग महसूस करेगे!
  • ·         डिन्नर के बाद अपनी फॅमिली के साथ एक छोटी सी वॉक भी एक big stress buster का काम करती है!
  • ·         साथ बिताए time ki quanitity की जगह quality पर ध्यान दे!
  • ·         कोई भी family ritual जैसे साथ मे शाम की प्रेयर या रीडिंग बेड टाइम स्टोरीस बनाए!
  • कुछ साथ बिताए ये क्षण आप की तनाव ग्रस्त ज़िंदगी मे ऑक्सिजन की तरह राहत पहुचाएगे!

My Personal favoutite activity- मे अपने बच्चो के साथ समय बिताने का सबसे अच्छा तरीका "story telling" मानती हूँ, रोज़ नही तो साप्ताह मे तीन-चार बार किसी भी अच्छी बात को लेकर एक स्टोरी सुनाना और फिर उसी स्टोरी के माध्यम से उन्हे अच्छे-बुरे की पहचान कराना, उनकी प्राब्लम सुनना, उन्हे हर मुश्किल परिस्थिति से लड़ने की राह दिखना...दिल को सुकून भी देता है और बच्चो के साथ टाइम बिताने का सबसे इंटरेस्टिंग तरीका भी लगता है! इस तरह के कॉन्वर्सेशन से हम बच्चो के और करीब भी आ जाते है!

कीजिए घर के मौहोल को पॉज़िटिव और खुशनुमा रखने की कोशिश
कहते है, एमोशन्स infectious होते है, यदि घर मे किसी एक का मूड खराब हो, तो बाकी सब का भी मूड खराब हो जाता है, वही दूसरी तरफ एक के चेहरे की हँसी सबका मूड अच्छा कर देती है, तो ज़रूरी है घर मे सभी एक दूसरे के साथ सामंजस्य बना कर चले, छोटी छोटी बातों को टालने की कोशिश कीजिए, एक दूसरे की कमज़ोरी नही बल्कि ताक़त बनिये, और सबसे ज़रूरी "हास्य रस" को अपने परिवार का अहम हिस्सा बनाए, ज़िंदगी है तो भाग-दौड़ और टेन्षन बने ही रहेगे, पर कुछ पल निकाल कर खुल कर हँसिए और अपने बच्चो और पति को भी हसाए, कहते है "Laughter is the best medicine" तो क्यो ना हम भी इस का सहारा ले खुद को और अपने परिवार को खुशहाल रखने मे!

My Personal favourite tip-यदि किसी बात पर आपस मे तनाव हो रहा हो बच्चो या पति के साथ, और घर का माहॉल भी तनाव पूर्ण है, तो बिना बात अचानक से बीच मे ज़ोर से हंस कर उस बात को वही ख्त्म कर देना मेरा सबसे कारगर तरीका है, घर के वातावरण को खुशनुमा रखने का!

अनुशासन की बनाए मीठी सीमाए
ये सब से मुश्किल पर सब से ज़रूरी काम है, एक परिवार को खुशहाल साथ ही संयमित रखने का, आम तौर पर जब हम किसी को बहुत प्यार करते है, तो बहुत मुश्किल होता है, उसे अनुशास्न की डोर मे बांधना, और जब बात हो अपने बच्चो और पति की..तो आम तौर पर हम कुछ ज़्यादा ही flexible हो जाते है, पर मत भूलिए ज़ीवन मे आगे बढ़ने और सफलता पाने के लिए कम उम्र से ही बच्चो को अनुशासित करना बहुत ज़रूरी है, और उस से भी ज़रूरी है, उसकी इंपॉर्टेन्स उन्हे समझाना..कई बार बच्चे अनुशांशन को positively नही ले पाते और डर की वज़ह से अपनी ग़लतियाँ छुपाने लगते है, इसलिए इस बात का ध्यान रखना बहुत ज़रूरी है, की वो खुशी के इसे अपनाए, बिल्कुल ये काम उतना आसान नही है पर फिर भी शुरुआत तो की ही जा सकती है, मसलन:
  • ·         छोटे-छोटे कामो मे बच्चो की मदद ले
  • ·         हर काम समय पर करने की आदत डाले
  • ·         उन्हे समय समय पर अनुशासन का महतव समझाए! साथ ही उन्हे अच्छे व्यवहार के लिए रिवॉर्ड देना भी ना भूले!

आम तौर पर पूर्व प्लॅनिंग की कमी हमे रुटीन लाइफ मे तनाव ग्रस्त करती है, और हम चाह कर भी अपनी फॅमिली लाइफ अच्छे से एंजाय नही कर पाते! समय पर और सही ज़गाह पर चीज़ ना मिलना, अचानक से किसी ज़रूरी वस्तु का ख्तम हो जाना, डॉक्टर का या और कोई ज़रूरी अपायंटमेंट भूल जाना...कुछ इस तरह की छोटी-बड़ी बाते है, जो हमे ना केवल शर्मिंदा करती है बल्कि हमारे आसान कामो को भी मुश्किल बना देती हूँ! सुनने या कहने मे ये थोड़ा बोरिंग लगता है, की हर चीज़ की लिख कर पहले  से ही प्लान किया जाए पर यकीन मानिए शुरआत मे ये ज़रूर थोडा मुश्किल लगता है पर its really works very well और धीरे धीरे जब हम हर काम को पहले से प्लान करने की आदत डाल लेते है, तो इससे न केवल हमारा तनाव कम होता है बल्कि अपने परिवार के साथ समय बिताने का भी मौका हमे अच्छे से मिलता है! आज कल हर चीज़ के लिए प्लॅनर मार्केट मे उपलब्ध है और साथ ही कई ऑनलाइन साइट और अपस है जो इस काम मे आप की राह आसान कर सकते है!
my personal favourite tip- आम तौर पर लोंग टर्म प्लॅनिंग जैसे planning for finance, planning for kids, planning for health issue के साथ शॉर्ट टर्म प्लॅनिंग like menu planning, cleaning schedule, self care schedule बना कर काम करने से न केवल रुटीन दीनो का तनाव कम होता है, साथ ही परिवार मे एक अनुशासन और खुशनुमा वातावरण भी रहता है!

ना भूले "me time" की इंपॉर्टेन्स
हो सकता है कुछ लोग आप को सेल्फिश समझे, पर यदि आप अपने परिवार को खुशहाल रखना चाहते है तो सबसे ज़रूरी है, की आप अपने आप से खुश हो, कई बार यदि हम अपने आप को सिर्फ़ अपने परिवार और ज़वाबदारियों मे बाँध कर रख लेते है, और नतीजा होता है "mommy burnout" और ये बहुत खराब situation होती है हमारे खुद के लिए और हमारे परिवार के लिए भी! इससे न केवल हमारा शारीरिक बल्कि मानसिक स्वास्थ्य पर बुरा असर होता है, बल्कि हमारे घर का मौहोल भी तनाव ग्रस्त हो जाता है, इसलिए ज़रूरी है चाहे वो घर की महिला हो या पुरुष, उन्हे कुछ समय "me time" मिले, जिसमे वो सिर्फ़ वही काम करे जो उनका पसंदगी का हो या जिसे करके उन्हे खुशी मिलती हो! वही बच्चो के लिए भी "unstructured play time" निकालना न भूले! ये बच्चो के सर्वांगीन विकास मे मदद करता है!
My personal favourite "Me Time activity"- मेरे लिए ब्लॉग लिखना और प्यारे पाठको की comments पढ़ना सब से खास "me time activity" है, जो न केवल मेरा रुटीन स्ट्रेस दूर करती है, बल्कि इससे मेरा आत्म विश्वास बढ़ता है और मे अधिक खुशी और positivity से अपनी फॅमिली की care कर पाती हूँ!
